Meet the people who shape our direction and uphold our values.

President: Michael Kavian

Michael Kavian is an experienced governance leader with a strong background in politics, government, and organisational leadership. He brings a deep commitment to transparent, ethical, and community‑centred governance, supported by tertiary qualifications in political science, public administration, and educational leadership.

Michael previously served as President of the Iranian Society of Queensland in 2023, where he led major reforms in governance, digital infrastructure, and community engagement. As President of AICC, he is dedicated to building a credible, sustainable, and inclusive national platform that strengthens the voice and wellbeing of Iranian‑Australians.

Treasurer: Naghmeh Danai

Naghmeh Danai is a registered migration agent with extensive experience in migration law, business leadership, and community engagement. She holds a postgraduate qualification in Migration Law and Practice from Griffith University and has supported migrants through complex visa pathways since 2008.

With more than 18 years of managing her own practice, Naghmeh brings deep expertise in visa strategy, settlement support and liaison with the Department of Home Affairs and assessing authorities. Her early work as a translator further strengthens her ability to engage across diverse cultural and linguistic contexts.

Naghmeh has contributed to community leadership through roles including Vice President of the Iranian Society of Queensland, where she supported policy development, strategic planning, grant applications, and collaborative initiatives with organisations such as Multicultural Australia.

As Treasurer of AICC, she is committed to strong governance, financial integrity, and organisational sustainability, contributing to a collaborative, community‑focused platform that advances the wellbeing and representation of Iranian‑Australians.

Secretary: Dr. Somaye Khani

Somaye Khani is an organisational development and learning professional with a background in education, leadership capability, and community engagement. She brings a strong focus on building structured, sustainable, and people-centred initiatives that support both individual growth and collective impact.

With academic training in sociology and ongoing studies in organisational psychology, Somayeh combines a deep understanding of social dynamics with practical experience in designing and delivering programs that strengthen communication, leadership, and community cohesion.

Somaye has been actively engaged in cultural and community initiatives both in Iran and Australia, including leading and coordinating grassroots projects during recent civic movements. As Secretary of AICC, she is committed to fostering constructive dialogue, strengthening internal governance, and contributing to a collaborative and forward-looking community platform.
